About Us

The International Research Centre on European Law (C.I.R.D.E.) has been active within the University of Bologna since 1991. Before the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty (2009) the Centre was operating under the acronym C.I.R.D.C.E. (Interdepartmental Research Centre on EC Law). Its main aim is to deepen and disseminate knowledge on European Law.

C.I.R.D.E. promotes research in collaboration with other Italian and foreign universities, offers graduate courses and organises MA programmes. Moreover, it provides professional training, refresher courses and acts as a consultant for numerous public and private entities.

The Centre brings together academics from the University of Bologna, together with national and international professionals. In addition, it works in close contact with experts from the European Union Institutions.

Jean Monnet Chair CIBELIS

The Jean Monnet Chair – CIBELIS aims at assessing the impact of the political and economic instability of the EU on the citizens. Most notably, the objective is to deepen and stimulate debate on how to effectively challenge the present state of affairs through institutional and legislative adjustments. The target groups of the research are, in particular: graduate and undergraduate students; PhD candidates; researchers; academics and judges. More generally, the project is directed at spreading awareness amongst citizens about the opportunities offered by the Union, also intercepting those parts of the population that for whatever reason are not familiar with the latter’s functioning.
